Flights operate daily from all over the UK and other major hubs to Florence and Pisa and the house is equidistant between the two. We would highly recommend hiring a car as reaching the house by public transport is possible but some services infrequent. The car rental companies at Pisa airport are located in a separate building and although there is a shuttle bus it is no more than 10 minutes on foot along a marked pathway
The route from both airports is via motorway for the first half hour – please bear in mind that there are tolls (less than 5 euros – cash and card accepted)
After exiting the motorway it is quite simple to navigate following the signs to Pescia, however the route from the latter to the house (last 6 miles) requires a bit more navigation and we would highly recommend printing out and following the driving directions attached to your booking confirmation email
There is a safe, contactless keysafe (code attached to your booking confirmation email)
There is no direct access to the house by car – there are however 2 (free) public carparks. The house is approx 200m walk from the carpark
There is very good signal from the house, however in certain areas this may be restricted by the very thick, 400+ year old walls. There is also good signal from the garden. We have however found difficulty with one mobile phone provider (Three), and would recommend using a wifi enabled messaging service such as whatsapp in conjunction with mobile
The house is fully equipped, including hair dryer, iron and ironing board, plug-in mosquito repellent, multi charger for all types of phones, kettle, espresso maker, dishwasher, toaster, swimming towels, backpack, coolbag, picnic blanket…please send us a quick message if you have any questions
The house is stocked with the basics – coffee, sugar, tea etc.
There is a van which visits the village every day (except Sundays) from 8am to 8:30am with full provisions, including delicious freshly baked bread and pastries. There is also a cheese van which visits the village on Thursdays between 9am and 10am.
The nearest basic stores are a 10 minute drive in Pietrabuona with an alimentari, butchers etc.
We highly recommend making a stop at the biggest supermarket, Esselunga, in Pescia which is conveniently en-route to the house (highlighted on the directions PDF attached to your booking email). There are two further major supermarkets, Co-op and Lidl, and a weekly Saturday morning market with ample fresh produce.
